Library Media Center
Instructor: Mr. Davis
The media center provides open access to students throughout the school day.  Students may come to the library whenever their teacher permits to use computers, do research, and check out books.  In addition, every class at PES visits the library on an 8 day rotation schedule.

The PES library has over 13,000 books, videos and magazines.  Seventeen computers are available for student and staff use.  Several web resources are provided by Knox County including online multi-media encyclopedias, student-friendly databases such as KidsInfobits, online dictionaries, and more!

Thanks Given for Support of RIF
We would like to thank the Target Corporation, the PES PTA, and the many parent volunteers for their generous support of the RIF program.  Three times each school year, PES students get to choose, at no cost to them, a high-quality book at RIF that they get to keep!  This program would not be possible without the generous support of the Target Corporation, the PES PTA, and the many parent volunteers who make it possible.  Thank you!

BOOK FAIR
The 2011 Powell Elementary School Book Fair begins November 1st!  This is a great way to put great books in the hands of PES students and is an important fundraiser for the library.  Please visit this link http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/powellelementaryschool for more about this year's Book Fair.

We owe a special thank you to all of the many parents who volunteer their time to make the Book Fair such a success each year.  If you would like to volunteer to help with this year's Book Fair please call the library at 947 - 4683 or visit our Book Fair home page above.  Money raised through this year's Book Fair will be used to purchase new computers for everyone to use in the library, a.r. quizzes, new library books for check-out, and other needed items.
The A.R. Program has begun!
The PES Accelerated Reading Program has begun!  Last year students took over 9,000 a.r. quizzes!

The first A.R. marking period runs from Thursday, September 8th through Tuesday, November 22nd.  Students who reach their individual A.R. goal will go to the A.R. store in November.

We would like to thank the many volunteers who help with the a.r. program (including the a.r. store).  We would also like to thank the PES PTA for their support of the a.r. program.  If you would like to volunteer with the Accelerated Reader Program please call the school at 938 - 2048.
